Description of MDG16-1

Technical details:

 

The invention is the mobile disinfection device MDG16-1, for chemical-free sterilisation and disinfection of all surfaces, in particular in operating theatres, intensive care units, isolation rooms and patient wards“.

 

The MDG16-1, can be used for all common surfaces like textile, wood, glass and metal.

 

The MDG16-1, impresses by its compact shape, a case which is robust and destined for daily use.

 

The MDG16-1, consists of the following elements:

The side panel of the light is made of 3,0 mm thick UV-C porous quartz glass. The rounded top and bottom parts are made of 1.5 mm thick V2A.

 

In the casing are the mounting frames, the brackets, the guides for the tubes, the lamps and ballasts for the 8 UV-C – tubes, also curved mirror reflectors of 1 mm V2A. The tubes can be supplied with a power rating of 36 or 80 watts each, with a wavelength of 253,7 nm (nm = Nanometer).

 

The lamps all have the same external dimensions, just as the UV-C –tubes and the ballasts all have the same dimensions, only the UV-C – tubes and the ballasts can vary in their power rating.

 

The stand with pipe consists of 2 x 1.000 mm lengths, anti-rotation, chromed, insertable pipes to which the lamps are mounted. The pipe is fixed with knurled nuts to the telescopic stand.

 

The electrical connections are situated in the lower part of the lamp.

The lamps are operated by an illuminated (green) keyswitch, the keyswitch with separate control light (white) is for the timer which can be individually set for a period between 1/2 hour and 1 hour and turns the 8 UV-C – tubes on

The operation time counter records the complete operation time and is not resettable, it is also a record for the maintenance intervals.

 

The MDG16-1 has as standard, an approx. 5 metre long special connection cable which can also be supplied longer upon request.

 

The consumption of the MDG16-1, is dependent upon the performance whether 36 or 80 watt and is in the range approx. 320 and 710 watts per hour and is, compared with other methods, environmentally compatible with low running costs as virtually no chemicals are used.

 

Dimensions and weight:

 

The MDG16-1 weighs 14,300 kg, and with the mounting flange is 1.000 mm high and has a diameter of 204 mm. The light emission is 790 mm.

 

The robust transport box weighs 10,000 kg, is 1.100 mm long, 300 mm wide and 300 mm high.

 

Both pipes have a weight of 4.200 kg.

 

The transport criteria are fulfilled as follows: Weight less than 31,500 kg and the dimensions of the package are 1.200 mm long, 300 mm wide and 300 mm high.

 

The stand is sent separately, it has a diameter of approx. 600 mm and a height of approx. 80 mm without wheels and 160 mm with wheels, it’s weight with wheels is 2,100 kg.

 

The dimensions of the package are 620 mm long, 650 mm wide and 250 mm high.

 

The stand is altogether 2.110 mm high, the area in which the MDG16-1 can be „adjusted“ from top to bottom with the aid of the base clamp is 1.960 mm.

 

When using the MDG16-1, it is strongly recommended to wear UV-C safety glasses and safety gloves. Further details are laid out in the usage and safety rules supplied with every MDG16-1.

 

The colour of the MDG16-1 is RAL 5012.

 

Areas of use:

 

UV-C – light is with 100 to 280 nm is the area of the ultra violet spectrum with the shortest wavelength and also the area with the most energy

For the destruction of microorganisms is most importantly the wavelength 253,7 nm (nm = Nanometer) responsible. it has the strongest effect on the genetic material in the nucleus of the microorganisms.

UV-C – rays cannot penetrate solid materials – also window glass (boronsilicate, duran) or transparent plastics (acrylic glass, polystyrene, perspex etc.), except for special materials e.g. UV-C porous quartz glass!

 

The MDG16-1, is recommended for rooms which need to be sterilised and disinfected, it is also effective against mould infestation.

 

The MDG16-1, is especially recommended in „problem – rooms (areas)“ like operating theatres, intensive care units and isolation wards and hospital rooms, which become contaminated by three very frequently occurring hospital germs, these are:

 

1. das Clostridium difficile, a bowel bacteria which can possibly cause extreme diarrhea,

 

2. the genre Acinetobacter, which can cause pneumonia and wound or urine infection by patients with weakened immune systems and

 

3. the Enterococci, which are resistant to the antibiotic Vancomycin (VRE). They can lead to severe infections for patients in the intensive care unit.

 

Various surfaces in these rooms can be affected. These include:

Beds, cupboards, mobile telephones, remote controls, the toilet and the handles on the bed.

As shown in the table, the temperature increased in the first 10 minutes from 15,1 °C to 35,2 °C on the MDG16-1.

After 60 min., the temperature on the MDG16-1 45,4 °C, this did not indicate a high temperature.

During the whole measurement period, the room temperature increased from t1 - 15,1°C to t7 - 17,2°C.
